This Extra will help you share your HyperStudio projects with others via the Internet!
First, save your stack using a name that ends with the characters ".stk". This is the standard suffix so that Netscape and other browsers will automatically know to use the HyperStudio plug-in for Netscape when your stack is viewed with an Internet browser.
Second, we recommend that you avoid the use of spaces in the name of your stack, because some Internet file servers do not support spaces in filenames, and replace them with the underscore character.
Once the stack is saved, use this Export Webpage Extra to create an accompanying HTML file that will let Netscape display your project right within the Netscape window.
If you have an HTML editor such as Navigator Gold, Page Mill, Home Page, or others, you can copy and paste the HTML code created by this extra into a larger web page.
You can also create HyperStudio stacks that are much smaller in height and width than normal, so as to provide multimedia "elements" for a web page. Examples of different techniques can be found on the HyperStudio home page, in the department called "Roger's Laboratory", at:

Testing Your Project
Once you've saved your stack and the accompanying HTML file created by the Export Webpage Extra, use "Open File" in Netscape to see just how your project will look to others over the Internet.
HyperStudio Special Effects
HyperStudio will let you do things in your Internet documents that were unheard of before.
For example, you could create a small HyperStudio card size that had a school or company logo, that when clicked on, did a transition to a picture of someone. Without HyperStudio, you just won't find this kind of multimedia effect in Internet documents!
Other HyperStudio features include the use of specific fonts, animations, sounds, and playing QuickTime movies.
Even more exotic is the prospect of using unique NBAs such Blabbermouth (that reads text aloud on Speech Manager-equipped Macs). Another interesting example would be using the CDPlay NBA to control an audio CD from within your HyperStudio stack, and consequently your web page. Imagine a music company posting interviews with music artists discussing their latest CD. Over the web, a person could insert a newly released audio CD into their own computer, and then have the artist take them on a personal tour!
Schools that create stacks that control laserdiscs can similarly instruct people to just hook up a laserdisc player and specific laserdisc title to their own computer, and then tour the laserdisc under the control of their HyperStudio-powered web page!

To make your copy of Netscape "HyperStudio-ready", just place the copy of the HyperStudio plug-in in the "Plug-ins" folder of Netscape. The name of the HyperStudio plug-in file cannot be changed.
NBA (New Button Action) Support
The HyperStudio plug-in is already set up with the vast majority of HyperStudio NBAs. These extensions to the HyperStudio system are similar to the Java applets you may have heard of.
Connecting to other URLs from within a stack
If you want to create buttons or hypertext in your stack that when clicked on transfer to another Internet URL, use the Netpage NBA to specify the target URL. This will then work within Netscape.
NOTE: HyperText is not available in HyperStudio for Windows version 1.0.5 or earlier. However, this feature should be available by late summer.
Different ways of using HyperStudio in a web page
1) Stand-alone page: If you just use the exported HTML script and your stack, you can have a webpage that is made up entirely of your HyperStudio stack. The "target" server file would just be the HTML code exported by the Export Webpage Extra.
2. Including a HyperStudio stack within a larger HTML document.
3. The last example shows how HyperStudio can be used to add multimedia special effects to a web page, where the viewer may not even be aware that a HyperStudio "stack" or card is embedded in the page. Remember, HyperStudio stacks can be any height and width, so if you want a page with just a little animated figure, or your school logo that transforms to a picture of a student, HyperStudio is a great way to do this!
